Jim Sullivan has been working as a successful
dating/relationship coach in the
gay
community with over 25 years of counseling experience, coaching men on their
interpersonal journey. His openness, sense of humor, keen insight,
and empathetic style have helped him gain a growing acceptance as an
advisor to men who are in search of their soul mate.
Mr. Sullivan knows the minefields of dating
through his own early disastrous attempts as a single guy. Through
his own maturing as a dating man he has become a mentor for other men who
have fought the good fight in the dating scene and are exasperated by a
scene which is fraught with disappointment, duplicity, and a loss of
hope. Jim, who calls himself a "prisoner of hope," has
been able to motivate these men to see their own self-worth, help them
customize their own action plan and detail the outcomes of these actions s
precisely as an accountant does his numbers. "God is in the
details," says Jim. "So many men before they come to see
me speak in vague language about dating. Their plans are always
mushy, so the resultant outcomes are inevitably disappointing. I
offer men the tools and skills necessary to keep their dating life on
track. They repeat
and go back to their olds ways, with their tail between their legs and curse
the gay community for 'doing it to them.' I offer a way out of this miserable
cul de sac."
In 1995 Jim Sullivan began running
workshops on dating strategies for gay men at the Lesbian & Gay
Community Services Center on West 13th Street in New York City. He
expected fifteen men and 55 showed up. Subsequent workshops exceeded 125
participants. More recently, Jim has brought his workshops to
Boston, Detroit and other U.S. cities.
Mr. Sullivan obtained a Masters degree from NYU in Counseling and an
M.A. degree in Religious Studies from Manhattan College.
